The creation of the Hundertwasser High School Lutherstadt Wittenberg resembles a fairy tale in which the ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan. Today, the finished school building, which the renowned Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1923-2000) created on the basis of a GDR prefabricated building, bears witness not only to excellent teaching and learning conditions, but also to the spectacular and artistically successful design, and to courage - the courage of those responsible in the district and city of Wittenberg, as well as in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, to make the decision to realize it. The Little Art Guide, written by Michael Sandau, the director of the Hundertwasser High School and initiator of the spectacular building project, presents the unusual project history in detail - from the first letter from the students to Friedensreich Hundertwasser, which dates from April 1993, to the completion of the outdoor area in the fall of 2003. In addition to the history of the creation of the Hundertwasser School, the design elements with which the „architecture doctor“ cured the monotony of the prefabricated building are also described. Last but not least, the author explains the significance of Hundertwasser's redesign for school life.
