Written in 1973 this book described the fundamental and then-recent developments in the technology of tandem-mill automation. Much of the material was original and not previously published. The work was the product of a three-year study on the automation of tandem cold-rolling mills, carried out by the Industrial Automation Group of the Department of Computing and Control at Imperial College, London, working in close collaboration with automation experts from the British Steel Corporation. It contains contributions of importance to process engineers, research scientists, and students concerned with the rolling process. The book has been written from the process and control engineering viewpoint, adopting a combination of exact and approximate methods. Text is illustrated.
