Indian Textiles: 1,000 Years of Art and Design

Focusing on the rich diversity of Indian textile culture, this book showcases items from the prestigious Karun Thakar Collection alongside significant pieces from two American collections. It explores three distinct design traditions: abstract, floral, and figurative, emphasizing textile ornamentation over traditional classifications. With essays by leading curators, the publication offers fresh insights into this ancient art form, featuring a wide array of textiles from folk embroideries to Mughal weavings and early trade textiles. An accompanying exhibition will be held at The George Washington University Museum.
