Alif has never left West Sumatra, where he spent his childhood searching for fallen durian, playing soccer on rice paddies, and swimming in Lake Maninjau. He studied at George Washington University and Royal Holloway, University of London. A portion of the trilogy's royalties will support Komunitas Menara, a volunteer organization dedicated to providing free schools, libraries, clinics, and soup kitchens for the underprivileged.
