Great short stories often leave readers yearning for more, and W. W. Jacobs's macabre classic "The Monkey's Paw" is no exception. This chilling tale has inspired a new work that expands upon its themes, featuring three interconnected stories about the infamous paw and its users. Readers will uncover the mystery of how Sergeant Morris acquired the paw and the shocking reason behind the final wish of its previous owner, who chose to end his own life. In total, nine wishes are granted—or perhaps they are just eerie coincidences—by the enigmatic monkey's paw. The narrative takes readers to exotic India, where spirited soldier William Brady brings the cursed talisman to his barracks, intending to amuse his comrades. However, the fun quickly spirals into horror and death. Newly appointed Sergeant Miles Seamus Morris witnesses Brady's tragic fate and inherits both the soldier's journal and the paw. As he navigates the harrowing trenches of France, the temptation of the talisman leads to unforeseen consequences. This work also includes a brief biography of Jacobs, a reworked version of the original tale, and two original stories, "The Monkey's Tale" and "The Monkey's Claw." Additional features include author notes and discussion questions, making it ideal for classroom or book club settings.
