Den Hauptreiz gewinnt das Stück vor allem durch das zweite Paar: Der Soldat Benedick, ein eingefleischter Frauenverächter, und Beatrice, scharfzüngige Männerhasserin, liefern sich bissige Wortgefechte von sprühendem Sprachwitz. Schließlich werden sie, ebenfalls durch eine Intrige, von der angeblich unsterblichen Zuneigung des jeweils anderen überzeugt – und gestehen sich prompt ihre wahren Gefühle für den nur scheinbar verhaßten anderen ein.
