Focusing on the intersection of political theory and performance studies, this study explores how public theatre contributed to the formation of English national identity around 1600. By analyzing selected history plays alongside non-fictional texts such as historiographies and political treatises, it reveals the intricate relationship between theatrical performances and the evolving concept of nationhood during this pivotal period.
