This Place is a monumental art project that delves into Israel and the West Bank through the lenses of twelve internationally acclaimed photographers. Their work interrogates the region's history, divisions, and paradoxes, resulting in a diverse and fragmented portrait rather than a singular vision. The photographers bring varied visual vocabularies, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds to their images. Previously exhibited in prestigious venues like the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum, the project now culminates in a retrospective volume featuring over 200 stunning photographs and exhibition views, alongside essays by esteemed curators discussing the project’s history and its relevance in today’s political and cultural landscape. The collection includes works by notable photographers such as Frédéric Brenner, Wendy Ewald, Martin Kollar, and others. The exhibition was held at the Jewish Museum Berlin from June 7, 2019, to January 5, 2020. Frédéric Brenner, known for his exploration of themes like longing and belonging, has dedicated years to documenting the Jewish experience worldwide, resulting in significant works including Diaspora: Homelands in Exile and An Archeology of Fear and Desire (2014). He resides in Berlin and Jerusalem.
