In recent years there has been a shift in how diversity and representation are discussed in the German cultural sector. The PostHeimat network, a three-year-long experiment in networked solidarity between major public German theatres and migrant actors and directors, discusses in this volume how to think about Heimat after migration. The contributions document the emergence, frictions, and difficulties in migrant theatre initiatives, being reflexive, research-based, and driven by cultural-policy-developing components. Emerging from encounters and plays, this study incorporates the critical perspectives of practitioners, scholars, activists, and artists from these initiatives and does not shy away from a frank reflection on failure and disappearance.
Das Theater an der Ruhr wurde 1980 von Roberto Ciulli, Dramaturg Helmut Schäfer und Bühnenbildner Gralf-Edzard Habben in Mülheim gegründet und ist ein Ensembletheater, das Reisen und Kulturaustausch fördert. Seit seiner Gründung hat das Theater über 40 Länder bereist und gleichzeitig internationale Kultur ins Ruhrgebiet gebracht. Diese Monographie bietet auf rund 1000 Seiten erstmals biographisches Material zu Roberto Ciullis Werdegang und Werk, beginnend mit seinem Philosophiestudium und dem Mailänder Zelttheater Il Globo. Sie dokumentiert seinen Weg vom Deutschen Theater Göttingen in den 1960er-Jahren über Köln in den 1970ern bis zur Gründung des Theaters in Mülheim. Neben aktuellen Gesprächen zwischen Ciulli und Anthropologe Jonas Tinius enthält das Werk umfangreiche Materialien aus fast 40 Jahren internationaler Theaterarbeit. Beiträge von Navid Kermani, Helmut Schäfer, Heinz-Norbert Jocks und anderen, zahlreiche Kritiken, Reisefotos sowie ein Bildessay von Knut W. Maron sind ebenfalls enthalten. Unterstützt von der Kunststiftung NRW und der Stadt Mülheim an der Ruhr, reflektiert Ciulli über die Rolle des Theaters als Raum für kollektive Intelligenz und sokratischen Dialog.
