This volume features papers from the Fifth International Symposium on Intracranial Pressure, held in Tokyo from May 30 to June 3, 1982. Since its inception in 1972, the Symposium has expanded significantly, with this year showcasing 121 oral and 46 poster presentations selected from over 216 abstracts, making the selection process quite challenging. A total of 151 manuscripts are included, encompassing classic papers, short communications, and poster session presentations organized by topic. The eleven sessions cover a wide range, from fundamental scientific insights into ICP dynamics to the latest clinical advancements and discussions. Additionally, seven special seminars led by invited speakers were introduced to review key aspects and historical context while exploring future directions in this evolving field. The organizers extend their gratitude to the Advisory Committee for their guidance, as well as to the Chairmen, Co-chairmen, participants, and the executive staff for their contributions to the Symposium's success.
