Glendale, dawny krasnoludzki gwardzista, który przeżył piekło sprzed dwustu lat, opowiada mu o sytuacji Krainy Żelaza i o tych, co przetrwali, walcząc u boku króla. Przy okazji paladyn poznaje młodego krasnoluda Ruu i dostrzega w nim samego siebie z poprzedniego życia. Postanawia zatrudnić go jako najemnika, a Ruu od razu się zgadza, czym wprawia swoich towarzyszy w osłupienie.

Nie lękaj się. Jestem przy tobie. Krasnolud Ruu ma stoczyć swoją pierwszą prawdziwą walkę z nieumarłym, którego zauważono w pobliżu miasta. Wyrusza więc w towarzystwie Willa na wyprawę, okazuje się jednak, że to pułapka zastawiona przez Stagnate. Bóstwo roztacza przed paladynem przerażającą wizję szaleństwa, jakie ogarnie stworzenia zamieszkujące Las Bestii na dźwięk smoczego ryku. Widok własnej śmierci rzuca Willa na kolana. Czy po czymś takim chłopak zdoła się podnieść i stawić czoła zagrożeniu?

Są rzeczy, których bogowie chcą dokonać naszymi rękami. Na krańcu południowego kontynentu, spustoszonego dwieście lat wcześniej przez demony, leży White Sails, przyczółek ponownej ekspansji rodzaju ludzkiego i zarazem cel podróży Willa. Krótko po przybyciu na miejsce chłopak zabija atakującą miasto wiwernę, co otwiera mu drzwi do pałacu tutejszego władcy. Niestety książę Ethelbald nie jest skłonny wspomóc go w walce z demonami zasiedlającymi Las Bestii, więc Will odchodzi z niczym. Nie zamierza się jednak poddawać. Sam zbiera drużynę i prosi o zgodę na zorganizowanie wyprawy. Lecz książę przedstawia mu zaskakującą propozycję…
