As The London Times’ correspondent in Russia in 1917, Robert Wilton provided the first western eyewitness account of the monumental events which resulted in the creation of the Soviet Union. In this book, Wilton provides a full historical background and the disastrous course of World War I for Russia, which sets the scene for the seizure of power by the Bolsheviks. He then details the full enormity of the Red Terror, and ends with the optimistic —and incorrect— hope that Bolshevism would be short-lived.
