How do race and class intersect to shape the identities and experiences of Black middle-class parents and their children? While extensive research exists on the educational strategies of white middle classes, there is a notable gap regarding the experiences and priorities of Black middle-class families. Focusing on families of Black Caribbean heritage, the authors draw on qualitative data from nearly 80 in-depth interviews with parents. They reveal how these parents navigate the school system and defend their children against low expectations and discrimination. The chapters delve into the financial, cultural, and social resources that parents leverage to promote their children's academic success and emotional well-being.
