Focusing on the experiences of African freedom fighters in the German Democratic Republic, this study challenges prevailing narratives that emphasize educational and labor migration. Through biographical accounts, it highlights the lives of exiles, particularly a Malawian activist expelled to West Berlin, and other South African exiles. The work ethnographically explores their struggles against colonialism and apartheid, revealing the complex interconnections between the "Second" and "Third" worlds during a pivotal historical period marked by decolonization and political displacement.
