Breathtaking, sublime, and meditative works in snow and ice pay tribute to the ingenuity of the participants, inspiring reflection in an age of global warming. In early 2004, a remote area of Finnish Lapland hosted one of the most ambitious art and design events in recent history, featuring seventeen collaborations between international artists and architects. The finished works showcased creativity over matter and beauty over ego, ranging from room-sized cylindrical ice-block lanterns to a snow amphitheater. This exhibition was a highlight of the year and marked the beginning of a traveling showcase, planned as a centerpiece for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, promising to delight visitors worldwide. The book features exquisite photography, detailed plans, sketches, and project descriptions by the artists and architects, celebrating the triumph of elegance and beauty in overcoming nature's harshest conditions. Notable collaborations include Eva Rothschild with Anamorphosis, Yoko Ono with Arata Isozaki, and Anish Kapoor with Future Systems, among others. With 250 illustrations, 150 in color, this work captures the essence of artistic innovation in extreme environments.
