Gerald Corey Bücher

Up-to-date and comprehensive, this practical best-selling text (now available with an online personalized study plan) helps students learn how to deal with and apply ethical standards. Authors Corey, Corey and Callanan provide readers with the basis for discovering their own guidelines within the broad limits of professional codes of ethics and divergent theoretical positions. They raise what they consider to be central issues, present a range of diverse views on these issues, discuss their position, and present many opportunities for readers to refine their own thinking and actively develop their own position. The authors explore such questions as: What role do the therapist's personal values play in the counseling relationship? What ethical responsibilities and rights do clients and therapists have? And, what considerations are involved in adapting counseling practice to diverse client populations?

This revision of Gerald Corey's best-selling text introduces students to the major theories of counseling (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist and, NEW to this edition, postmodern approaches) and demonstrates how each theory can be applied to a single case (Stan). Reviewed by 27 of the field's leading experts, Corey's Seventh Edition covers the major concepts of counseling theories, shows students how to apply those theories in practice, and helps them learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counseling style. Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, Corey offers an easy-to-understand text that helps students compare and contrast the therapeutic models. Designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, this text presents vivid examples of how 10 counseling approaches (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, feminist, and family systems) work with a single client, Ruth. By applying each theory to a single client, Corey illustrates each therapeutic approach in action and helps clear up misconceptions students might have about how a therapeutic model actually works. Guest commentators (each a well-known and highly recognized practitioner) discuss Ruth's case based on their perspectives. In some cases, Corey was able to enlist the founder of a particular therapy such as William Glasser for control theory and reality therapy, Arnold Lazarus for multimodal therapy, and Albert Ellis for rational emotive behavior therapy.
