Ve čtvrtém díle vzrušující ságy z prehistorické doby pokračuje dobrodružné putování Ajly a jejího přítele Jondalara.Jejich láska prošla tvrdou zkouškou,než se rozhodli spolu žít a odejít do Jondalarova domova,země Zelandonců.Putují v opačném směru stejnou cestou,kterou před léty prošel Jondalar se svým bratrem Thonolanem,od moře Beran údolím Matky řek,od jejího širokého ústí až k prameni, a čeká je překročení velkého ledovce.

Druhá část rozsáhlé ságy Děti země pokračuje ve vyprávění o osudech kromaňonské dívky Ajly, která ztratila svůj lid a vyrostla v klanu Velkého medvěda.
