Key assignments included transporting General Mark Clark for the North African invasion and rescuing General Giraud from Vichy France. Notably, the submarine was commanded by two captains: Royal Navy Lieutenant Bill Jewell and U.S. Navy Captain Jerauld Wright, whose collaboration was vital to the success of these missions, including the famous Operation Mincemeat.
