Z předmluvy autorky: Tak jako tomu bylo v případě mé první knihy, ani zde nebylo mým úmyslem psát historii genocidy v Rwandě. Detailní reportáž a politickou analýzu těch 100 dní zabíjení ponechávám historikům, žurnalistům, profesorům a politikům. Mým příspěvkem je pouze můj vlastní příběh – ano, příběh o přežití genocidy, ale také svědectví o tom, jak jsem díky víře a uzdravující síle odpuštění znovu objevila chuť žít, smysl života. Jde o pravdivý příběh: všechny události se skutečně staly, používám své vlastní jméno i skutečná jména mých rodinných příslušníků. Změnila jsem pouze jména některých dalších osob v mém vyprávění, pokud si to žádala ochrana jejich soukromí a bezpečnost těch, kteří přežili. Tato publikace vyšla navazuje na knihu Left to Tell, která se v USA stala bestsellerem a vyšla v češtině pod názvem Přežila jsem (Ikar - Euromedia Group, 2007). Autobiografie Přežila jsem je strhujícím příběhem. Autorka - Immaculée Ilibagiza - díky víře v Boha přežila masakr asi 1 mil. Tutsiů, který se odehrál ve Rwandě r. 1994. Je katolického vyznání a pochází ze Rwandy. Od r. 1998 žije v USA (je držitelkou mezinárodní ceny Mahátma Gandhího za r. 2007).
