Der Objektivist - Die Welt als Schauspiel In den 1920ern war Otto Dix der Künstler der Neuen Sachlichkeit par excellence. Sein Malstil war sehr realistisch, fast schon fotografisch. Seine Motive waren Armut, Gewalt, Tod und Krieg, gespeist aus seinen Erfahrungen als Soldat im Ersten Weltkrieg. Nach dieser schrecklichen Zeit malte er das berühmte Triptychon "Der Krieg". Dix malte die Welt als ein großes Schauspiel, eine groteske Farce. Seine Formensprache war dem klassischen Kanon der Schönheit entlehnt. Dix lebte sein Leben und diente der Kunst, denn er glaubte an die alte Regel, die der amerikanische Maler Ad Reinhardt einmal so auf den Punkt brachte: "Leben ist Leben, und Kunst ist Kunst".

Painting in a very realistic, almost photographic style, he chose as subjects the poverty, violence, death, and war that he experienced as a soldier in World War I. After this terrible experience, he painted the famous triptych The War. Dix staged the world as a play, a grotesque farce. But the form he chose to do so was based on the classical canon of beauty. Dix lived his life and served art, for he adhered to the age-old rule that the American painter Ad Reinhardt put in a nutshell: Life is life, and art is art.
