Chemnitz: Once one of the richest industrial cities in Germany in the 19th and early 20th centuries, after National Socialism it became the model city of GDR socialism, today a synonym for social tensions and political conflicts: Chemnitz-a city that has lived disruptions like no other throughout its historical development. Disruptions that are still visible today and have inscribed themselves in the disparate urban landscape. "Gegenwarten Presences" is an exhibition project that takes place in the public space of Chemnitz in summer 2020 and will respond precisely to this. Projects by 20 international artists and collectives are shown, who deal with the respective social, political and urban issues of the city in their site-specific works-interventions and sculptures, installations and performances.

Mischa Kuball (*1959 in Düsseldorf) gehört zu den wenigen deutschen Künstlern, die unabhängig von den Moden des Kunstmarkts seit mehr als 20 Jahren ein eigenständiges Werk entwickelt haben, das in der vorliegenden Monografie erstmals umfassend publiziert wird. Geordnet nach thematischen Schwerpunkten wie beispielsweise den architekturbezogenen Interventionen, den Lichtinstallationen, den Videoprojektionen oder den publikumsbezogenen Performances, entwickelt sich das Kaleidoskop eines vielschichtigen Werks, in dessen Zentrum immer das Medium Licht steht. Prominente Autoren beschreiben und diskutieren die verschiedenen Strukturen im Werk von Mischa Kuball. Ausstellungen: ZKM, Karlsruhe sowie Stationen in Graz, Hannover, Duisburg, Siegen, Serbien, Bosnien und Herzegowina, China, Japan, in der Schweiz und Frankreich

In this age of globally connected information societies--of cell phones, email, home shopping, and the Internet--we retreat deeper and deeper within our own four walls. Yet--and perhaps, consequently--public urban spaces are becoming more and more important, having lost none of their significance as interfaces of human communication. Featured here are more than 30 artists who have developed their own personal visions, utopias, and fantasies of a life in and with the city, realized over 30 years of public projects for the city of Bremen. Included are works by Kim Adams, Louise Bourgeois, Olafur Eliasson, Isa Genzken, Hans Haacke, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Atelier van Lieshout, Olaf Nicolai, Julian Opie, Panamarenko, Marjetica Potrc, Tobias Rehberger, Thomas Ruff, Roman Signer, and Winter/Harbelt.
