Bob Gruen hat John Lennon im Herbst 1971 zum ersten Mal fotografiert und wurde Monate später sein persönlicher Fotograf und guter Freund. Über einen Zeitraum von neun Jahren, bis hin zu Lennons Tod im Winter 1980, begleitete Gruen John, Yoko und ihren Sohn Sean fotografisch. Das so entstandene Archiv mit zahlreichen unververöffentlichten Aufnahmen bildet das Rückgrat dieses Bandes.
