Ian William Ridpath ist ein englischer Amateurastronom, der seit 1972 aktiv in der Himmelsbeobachtung, im Schreiben, Redigieren und Rundfunk zu diesem Thema tätig ist. Über seine astronomischen Aktivitäten hinaus ist er für seinen UFO-Skeptizismus und sein Interesse an Astro-Philatelie bekannt. In astronomischen Kreisen ist er vor allem als Herausgeber des Oxford Dictionary of Astronomy und für seine Arbeit am klassischen Norton's Star Atlas anerkannt. Seine produktive Karriere umfasst das Verfassen oder Redigieren von über vierzig Büchern im Bereich der Astronomie, was ihn zu einer bedeutenden Persönlichkeit auf diesem Gebiet macht.
