Herman Zimmerman ist ein Überlebender des Holocaust. Im Alter von 12 Jahren erlebte er an der Hand seines Vaters, wie in den Straßen von Köln die Massen Hitler zujubelten: hier setzt seine Geschichte ein. Kurz darauf war seine Familie mit nichts als ein paar Habseligkeiten auf der Flucht und wußte nicht, wohin. Mehrmals um Haaresbreite den Nazis entkommen und immer wieder auseinandergerissen, gelang der Familie die Flucht über Holland, Belgien und Frankreich, bis sie schließlich in der Schweiz Zuflucht fand. Ohne Haß oder Schuldzuweisung, aber mit Leidenschaft und nicht ohne Humor beschreibt Herman Zimmerman den Alltag einer Flüchtlingsfamilie in einer Zeit äußerster Bedrängnis.
