    Vittorio Santoro, everything's not lost
Der Ort des Ereignisses ist unsere Vorstellung: ›It's all in your mind‹.' (Madeleine Schuppli, Andreas Münch)

      Vittorio Santoro, everything's not lost
    • Tiré du site Internet http://www.memorycage.com: "Inhabiting various places at various times, brief encounters, this is one the principal traits of present-day "mobile" society. But in what sense is experience determined by time ? What is "experience", especially commonly lived experience, what of it can be "shared", what is "communicable", "translatable"? The artist's book by Vittorio Santoro (born 1962, lives in Zurich) is a band of boarding cards which Santoro has been collecting more than 10 years, his own and such ones as given by friends and acquaintances. The boarding cards were given to him by friends and acquaintances. Their presence is made visible by the mechanically inscribed names. Places of departure and arrival form a net of voyages. Sometimes the routes of these voyages cross, sometimes not. "Imagine. You are Landing" is a contemplation of human relations. It is a net of relations, where shared experience seems to materialize, a shared history seem to come forth. On the other hand, this artist's book functions as a "memento mori", since all the voyages of all persons are of the past. The boarding passes become signifiers of the memory, forming a discontinuous frieze of ephemeral realities."
