In the spring of 1965, Porsche introduced the 912 model to serve as a more affordable entry-level option, replacing the Porsche 356 C and SC. This limited edition book, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 912, details its development and modifications in comparison to the 911, as well as the changes it underwent during its four years of production. Initially, some staff were dissatisfied with the 912, as it retained the four-cylinder engine from the discontinued 356, while the 911 featured a new legendary six-cylinder engine. However, the 911's high price made it inaccessible for many enthusiasts in Germany, prompting the need for a more affordable model, leading to the creation of the 912. Between 1966 and 1969, approximately 32,000 units were produced, including the Porsche 912 Coupé and the 912 Targa. The book also explores the lesser-known Porsche 912E, produced in 1976 exclusively for the US market, with only 2,099 units made.
