Exploring elite behavior in authoritarian regimes, this work delves into the dynamics of elite support during popular uprisings. It categorizes the elites backing autocrats into three distinct groups: the military, the single-party, and the personalist. The author examines the reasons behind elites withdrawing their support for incumbents, providing insights into the interplay between authority and popular dissent.
