In diesem Buch gibt Dr. Gustav Krüger einen umfassenden Überblick über die aktuellen Fragen der Energiepolitik. Veranlasst durch die von der Regierung beschlossene Energiewende wurde diese Auflage erweitert um ein zusätzliches Kapitel: Energiewende - Machbarkeit und Kosten. Krüger erläutert ausführlich die Gründe, aus denen man sich schnellstmöglich von der Vorstellung verabschieden sollte, energiepolitische Probleme seien schon heute mit Wind- und Solarkraft zu lösen. Es gibt zwar vielversprechende Ansätze – vom Aufwindkraftwerk bis hin zu Energie aus Algen und Wellenkraftwerken. Doch bis zur Marktreife neuer und effizienter Technologien muss auf fossile Energieträger und Kernkraft zurückgegriffen werden. Das Fazit des Autors: Sparsamer Umgang mit Energie ist notwendig und richtig, genügt jedoch zur Sicherung des zukünftigen Energiebedarfs bei weitem nicht.
Dr. Gustav Krüger behandelt in diesem Buch in leicht verständlicher Form die grundlegenden Fragen zur Energiewende: Sind die Gründe für die gesetzlich verordnete Abkehr von der Energieerzeugung in konventionellen Kraftwerken wirklich stichhaltig? Ist Kernkraft tatsächlich zu riskant? Ist CO2 wirklich ein klimaschädliches Gas, so dass man auf die thermischen Kraftwerke verzichten muss? Wird man genügend Energie aus erneuerbaren Quellen erzeugen können? Ist das Angebot an Wind und Sonne groß genug? Wie viele Windräder und wie viele Solarzellen werden gebraucht? Woher kommt der Strom, wenn keine Sonne scheint und kein Wind weht? Was gibt es für Möglichkeiten, um Energie zu speichern? Und ganz entscheidend: Was kostet das alles? Die Rechnung kommt bestimmt! Krüger gibt auch einen Ausblick auf die Zukunft, welche neuen Energiequellen zu erschließen sind. Sein Fazit: Es muss verstärkt auf die neuen Quellen hingearbeitet werden. Der vollständige Ersatz der Kohle- und Kernkraftwerke in der vorgegebenen Zeit ist weder machbar noch bezahlbar.
