Focusing on the intersection of jazz and poetry, this work highlights the contributions of five influential African-American women poets who utilize jazz-inspired techniques to address social issues. Jennifer D. Ryan explores how their literary and musical expressions not only reflect the complexities of modern American culture but also contribute to a radical black poetics. Through their art, these poets articulate a transnational feminist perspective, merging local and global critiques that resonate with the struggles and experiences of black women.
