This book features educational piano pieces for the student around Grade 1. Each piece is related to a period or key figure in history. Matthew Clayton, the composer of the book, has carefully created fun piano music that will challenge and encourage the developing piano student. 'The Vikings and Normans' is the first book in the series. Each piece will include a snippet of information explaining what the piece is about. While also providing historical information, it will also help the pupil set the mood of the piece. One of the first pieces entitled 'Fierce Raiders Attack the Coast' is an exciting and dramatic piece about the Vikings attacking British towns. The student will enjoy tackling the trills and dramatic accents in this piece. In contrast, another piece called 'Thatched Straw Roofs' is a relaxing ballad with a lovely cantabile melodic line. Further books in this series include 'The Tudor's' aimed at Grade 2 pupils and 'The Victorians' aimed at Grade 3+ pupils.
