Jeho vzácný talent mu dovoluje vytvářet dílo s obrovským ohlasem diváků, který ovšem až do nedávna nenalézal pochopení u Americké filmové akademie. V této knize Philip Taylor pátrá také po Spielbergových filmových inspiracích a vzorech, mezi kterými nechybí např. Francois Truffaut nebo David Lean. Vrací se k jeho začátkům v televizním studiu, popisuje jeho filmovou dráhu a nezapomíná ani na filmy, které Spielberg produkoval. Všímá si také technického a komerčního pozadí filmové tvorby.
