Cabana Corpse: A Cassie Hall Mystery
    • It's summertime, and Cassie Hall, concierge at the luxurious Parkstone Apartments, is readying the facility's rooftop pool for opening day. The beautiful red-and-white striped cabana will look fabulous next to the blue water, she notes. The first group to use the pool is the Parkstone swim club, headed by ebullient resident Dot Olive. However, a couple days later when Cassie arrives to check on the group, she finds the pool area empty except for Dot Olive's dead body underneath the tipped over cabana. Not an auspicious way to start the summer. Another dead body in an ever-lengthening list of corpses that have been accumulating at the Parkstone, much to Cassie's chagrin and that of her fiance, Detective Eric Peters, who now apparently has another murder on his plate. No sooner has the body been discovered but Cassie is out sleuthing, trying to determine which of the Parkstone's rich residents could have offed the effervescent Mrs. Olive. Motives and suspects quickly pile up, and although Eric chastises her about sticking her nose in police business, Cassie just can't seem to leave the sleuthing to her fiance. That is, until the club room catches fire and a threatening message is left for Cassie in the rubble. Will this scare her into backing off? Not likely. Cassie is determined to find out who killed this Cabana Corpse before summer is over!

    • Concierge Cassie Hall is sorting through her mail in the mail room at the luxurious Parkstone apartment building before her night-time shift begins. Suddenly she overhears the day-shift concierge Mason Day get into a heated argument with a resident at his desk in the lobby nearby, while Cassie continues to peruse her mail, but suspects something might be awry. When she leaves the mail room and heads to the concierge desk, Mason is nowhere in sight. That is, until Cassie peeks behind the desk into the cloakroom and spies Mason's body slumped on the floor among the overcoats. She quickly rushes over to check on him, but the young man is dead--a letter opener from his desk lodged firmly in his chest. Cassie quickly calls her boyfriend Eric, a local homicide detective, and the police take over the investigation. Of course, that's not enough for Cassie. Her colleague has been murdered and she feels responsible. She's going to find the killer herself! And she's starting with all of the residents in the building!

Was it the peanut-filled cookies that all the Parkstone residents knew she was allergic to? Or could it be some other substance still to be determined by a tox screen? Cassie isn't waiting for the forensics folks to conclude their analysis; she feels responsible for the crime and she is determined to identify the little old lady's birthday basher. Then she will be able to concentrate on more important things--like her wedding!
