But it should be remembered that he was taken in battle. He was found with weapons of war in his hands, fighting by the side of the Hurons, the sworn enemies of the Iroquois. He had taken the sword, and could expect nothing else but to perish by the sword. He had undertaken to act the warrior's part, could he expect to escape the warrior's fate?
