As we go through life we all cut paths. Eventually most paths will cross. The crossing of paths need not become reasons for violence, hate, and greed. Most crossings are good and made without incident. The paths we leave are crossed by many. Those we know, love, and care for, are those who have safely crossed our paths. Scotty Wilson, born on a hardscrabble farm in Northern Texas, wants nothing more than to lead a normal, steady life. His natural abilities with both hand guns and long guns causes his life to be one of tension and dread. Someone always wanting to see just how fast he can draw his handgun. It sickens him, but he tries to make the best of it. He tries to follow the advice given him by an old gun handler: to always do it his way. Toby Jefferson, born on a keelboat on the Mississippi River, has a dream. His dream is to leave the river and head west for a new and better life. At the age of sixteen, he strikes out on his own. He too has a natural ability with a handgun. Toby has a speech defect and works to overcome it. These two young men lead entirely different lives until their paths cross. Once their paths cross, their lives become entwined. Along the way to the crossing, they meet many wonderful and not so wonderful people and each one of them plays a part in their lives. Share with them their joys, sorrows, laughter, loving, and adventure.

This is a very emotional and sometimes exciting group of stories from my life as a youngster, living in rural America during the 1930's and 1940's. These are events that actually happened and verified by those involved. I am well aware that some people will be reminded of their youth. Remembering our own youth keeps us young at heart. If I can help you recall some good times and some of the joy of youth, my mission will be complete.
