My first view of San Francisco was from an Oakland ferry. Literally and figuratively, I was a babe in the woods and the City became a finishing school for the young man fresh from the weeds of East Texas where, unfortunately, he was born. In San Francisco, I began to shake the husk from my ears and the sand from my feet and to recognize that the only Texans one should know are those who escape. Firstly, I rejected all that I had been taught and commenced to recreate my self into the myth of my liking. I reveled in the arts, I learned to love opera, I learned to eat and to cook haute cuisine of many cultures. I learned, also, to luxuriate in the arms of many lovers. I was another version of Pygmalion and Baghdad by the Bay became my mentor. This book is not just my story, it is a take on all the lonely young men who came to the City in search of their nirvana. In this book, I have tried to give a taste of what it was like to live in San Francisco before the plague...better known as AIDS. Emmett Shields

This is a riveting tale of love and greed set against the backdrop of the War on Terror. Intrigues and conspiracies with clandestine operations by unseen powers that take place in distant lands, combined with satire, makes this a sensational book for politically savvy readers. The travails of the protagonists focus attention on the war torn region of the Middle East where the plight of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire leaves an indelible impression of horror and recoil.

Bun Bait is a satire on sex. From predilections to persuasions to confused genders, this novel spoofs a buffet of sexual appetites. Our hero, an ex-tennis jock now a pinch past his prime, lives by the myth that perfect buns are the exclusive property of the tennis elite. It is the irony of this myth that a pair of super buns bring our hero forth to catch the bad guys and gals. Adroitly used by his lifelong friend, a police lieutenant, our hero stumbles his way from assignation to misadventure and, in the process, solves both old and new murders as he brings down la femme fatale. Charm, spectacular buns and a great heart turn our hero into the local boy who makes his fame and fortune between the sheets. - E.L. Shields
