Es geht um grundsätzliche Überlegungen aus theologisch-ethischer Perspektive1 mit Bezug auf die Sterbehilfe in Langzeitpflegeinstitutionen. Wenn ich immer wieder den Begriff des »Altersheimes« brauche, dann bin ich mir dessen Konnotationen bewusst, doch meine ich zugleich, dass der Begriff der »Langzeitpflegeinstitutionen« überaus euphemisch ist. Sterbehilfe ist ein umfassender Begriff, so dass ich mich auf Sterbehilfe als Beihilfe zum Suizid beschränken werde. Dies werde ich in Teil I erklären (I/2). Die aktuelle Diskussion über die Zulassung von Sterbehilfeorganisationen in Altersheimen im Kanton Zürich zeigt, dass die Stellungnahmen zu diesem Problemfeld äusserst kontrovers sind, weil grundlegende ethische Werte zur Disposition stehen (I/1.)
