Aus einer vergleichenden Perspektive der Strafjustiz ist es gut, etwas über die Strafjustizsysteme anderer Gesellschaften zu lernen (CJS). Allerdings bieten sie nicht direkt kontextuelles Wissen, das spezifisch für Liberia CJS ist. Das macht es für Studenten, denen die kontextuellen Fähigkeiten fehlen, schwierig, westliche Texte in den liberianischen Kontext zu übersetzen oder anzuwenden. Aus diesem Grund führt diese prägnante Ausgabe Studenten in die Art und den Umfang von Liberia CJS ein. Sie konzentriert sich insbesondere auf die drei Komponenten (Liberia National Police, Circuit Courts/Criminal Courts und das Bureau of Correction and Rehabilitation) des liberianischen Justizwesens. Es bietet auch einen umfassenden Überblick über die Strafverfolgung in Liberia. Obwohl dieses Buch in erster Linie für Studenten in Liberia gedacht ist. Es ist aber auch für Ausbilder und Dozenten der CJ nützlich.

Similar to other textbooks, this primer it is a compendium of basic sociological concepts mainly confined to the Liberian society with clear learning objectives. As an introduction to the sociology of the Liberian society, it does not contain all of the sociological concepts applicable to the Liberian society. However, it provides basic sociological concepts undergraduate students reading sociology should comprehend and appreciate about the Liberian society. As a focus, this textbook meticulously examines the culture of Liberia, major social institutions, agents of social control, social stratification, contemporary social problems, collective behavior, and social movement in contemporary Liberian society. Interestingly, it highlights protest as emerging culture and its impacts on the Liberian society.

Recently the wave of social protests aiming at regimes change in the global community have been unprecedented in scope. Africa having succeeded in stamping out the tides of coup d'état, or military coup that over the years undermined its' growing democracy, the continent has now become a hub for the momentous wave of social protests that in less than a decade changed four regimes (Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Burkina Faso) and making its way in other parts of Africa. Some like minded authors in their scholarly articles cited related political issues such as corruption, mismanagement of natural resources, prolonged regime, bordering on bad governance to be the reasons behind the wave of regime change protests. Without disagreement to the above reasons, this book takes a distinct approach that interrogates the subject matter. From a sociological perspective as the conceptual framework, it meticulously argued that skepticism of trust in electoral system, skepticism of trust in independence of the Judiciary, the problem of majority rule and the conspicuous silence of the International Community are the reasons behind the mounting appeal of popular uprisings in Africa. The book concludes that no matter how much critics conceptualized social protest as unconstitutional undermining Africa growing democracy, the continent remained vulnerable to social protest unless African leaders address the reasons thereof.
