Northrop Frye (1912-1991), kanadischer Literaturkritiker und Professor in Toronto, wurde mit zahlreichen Ehrendoktorwürden und Preisen ausgezeichnet Mit „Anatomy of Criticism“ legte er ein Standardwerk der Literaturtheorie vor. Besondere Beachtung schenkte Frye dem Bereich von Bibel und Literatur. Neben „Words with Power“ liegen auch „The Great Code“, #2Creation and Recreation„ und “The Double Vision" in deutschsprachigen Ausgaben vor.

Northrop Frye (1912-1991) gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Literaturkritiker des 20. Jahrhunderts. Besonders durch seine Analysen der Verknuepfungen von Literatur, Kunst und Religion erlangte er Weltruhm. Seine Publikationen, der Ertrag seiner Lehrtaetigkeit, 38 Ehrendoktorate und zahlreiche Auszeichnungen zeugen davon. Frye, ordinierter Pastor der United Church of Canada, blieb „seiner“ Victoria University of Toronto ein Leben lang verbunden. 1947 wurde ihm mit seinem Buch „Fearful Symmetry“, einer Studie zu William Blake, internationale Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Er war oftmals Gast bei Symposien iun zahlreichen Laendern der Welt und seine Buecher wurden in viele Sprachen uebersetzt; nur weniger aber sind in deutscher Sprache erschienen, wie „Analyse der Literaturkritik“ und „Shakespeares Vollendung“. Hier liegt nun sein Opus Magnum von 1982 vor. „Der Grosse Code. die Bibel und Literatur“.
