Open theism has reached its adolescence. How did it get here? And where does it go from here? Since IVP's publication of The Openness of God in 1994, evangelical theology has grappled with the alternative vision of the doctrine of God that open theism offers. Responding to critics who claim that it proposes a truncated version of God that fails to account for Scripture and denies many of the traditional attributes of God, open theism's proponents contend that its view of God is not only biblically warranted but also more accurate--with a portrayal of God that emphasizes divine love for humanity and responsiveness to human free will. Now, twenty-five years later, Richard Rice recounts in this volume the history of open theism from its antecedents and early developments to its more recent and varied expressions. He then considers different directions that open theism might continue to develop in relation to several primary doctrines of the Christian faith.

"Tarzans Sohn" ist das vierte von 24 Büchern von Edgar Rice Burroughs über die Figur Tarzan. Tarzan trat erstmals in der Geschichte "Tarzan bei den Affen" (engl. "Tarzan of the Apes") auftrat, die in der Oktoberausgabe des Pulp-Magazins "All-Story Magazine" am 27. August 1912 erschien. Die erste Buchausgabe erschien 1914. Tarzan ist der Sohn eines britischen Lords und dessen Frau, die zu Beginn noch schwanger ist. Die beiden werden Opfer einer Meuterei, werden an der afrikanischen Küste ausgesetzt und richten sich dort ein. Sie bauen eine kleine Hütte, in der sie sich sicherer fühlen als im wilden Dschungel. Ihr Sohn erhält den Namen John Clayton III., Lord Greystoke. Die Mutter stirbt, als er ein Jahr alt ist; sein Vater lässt sein Leben im Kampf gegen eine Affenbande. Von da an heißt die Waise "Tarzan" und wird von dieser Gruppe Affen aufgezogen, unter denen sich die Affenfrau Kala besonders um ihn kümmert. Ihren eigenen, zuvor vom Affenhäuptling getöteten Säugling legt sie stattdessen in die Wiege der kleinen Hütte. "Tar-zan" bedeutet "Weiße Haut" in der Mangani-Sprache, der von Burroughs erschaffenen Affensprache. Die Affenart wird in den Romanen nicht genannt; es sind weder Gorillas noch Schimpansen, sondern sogenannte "große Anthropoiden". In den nächsten Jahren wächst Tarzan im Vergleich zu den Affenkindern langsam heran, erlangt aber als Kind bereits die Körperkraft eines Leistungssportlers von etwa 30 Jahren.

Jedenácté pokračování knih o Tarzanovi jen posiluje jeho postavení v džungli. Tato povídka vyšla poprvé časopisecky v roce 1928, po zhruba 4-leté pauze od psaní Tarzana, kdy se Burroughs věnoval psaní jimných knih, jako byla série knih John Carter, pán Marsu, či jiné povídky.

Tarzan lebt in seiner wahren Identität als Lord Greystoke mit Frau und Sohn auf einer Farm in Afrika. Aus Geldnöten will er nochmals nach Opar, der geheimnisvollen Stadt im Dschungel, um sich aus dem dort verborgenen riesigen Schatz Gold zu holen. Eine Betrügerbande mit dem gerissenen Esteban ist auf seinen Fersen. Tarzan wird in der Opar-Höhle am Kopf verwundet und verliert zeitweise das Gedächtnis. Ein von ihm grossgezogener Löwe rettet ihn.
