Lomborg není "klimatický skeptik" v tom smyslu, že by odmítal převládající názory na oteplování v důsledku lidské aktivity. Nezpochybňuje ani to, že globální oteplování bude mít ve svém souhrnu nakonec pro lidi, životní prostředí i ekonomiku negativní následky. Velkou skepsi však projevuje vůči všeobecně navrhovaným způsobům řešení v čele s Kjótským protokolem. Ukazuje, že objektivně doložitelným škodám oteplování lze snadno zabránit cílenými, rychlými a především relativně levnými zásahy.
