Jay rückt mit seiner differenzierten Arbeit die Frankfurter Schule und die keineswegs uniformen Positionen ihrer Vertreter in ein klares Licht und erschwert es den Kritikern – von rechts wie von links –, allzu leichtfertig beim Etikettieren dieser wichtigen Gruppe von Intellektuellen zu verfahren.
