Theodorus Metochites (died in 1332) was one of the most important polyhistors in the last centuries before Byzantium. His main philosophical work, now available as a reprint, is a commentary on Aristotelian ‹Physics‹ as well as on ‹De anima, De caelo, De ortu et interitu, Parva naturalia‹ and ‹Meteora‹. In connection with the increasing criticism of Aristotle in the 16th century, this work was translated into Latin by the well-known translator of the Sextus Empiricus, Gentian Hervet.

Theodoros, Bishop of Cyzicus in the 10th century, is one of the lesser-known figures of Byzantine literature. Little is known about his life, but his correspondence with Konstantinos VII. Porphyrogennetos bears witness to the close contact between the cleric and the emperor. M.
