Dieser Historiker befasst sich mit der intellektuellen und kulturellen Geschichte Europas vom 18. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert. Seine Forschung, mit besonderem Interesse an transnationaler Geschichte und der Geschichte der europäischen Oper, bietet eine einzigartige Perspektive auf die Vernetzung europäischer Kulturen. Als Gründungsdirektor des UCL Centre for Transnational History prägt er das gegenwärtige Verständnis der europäischen Geschichte. Seine Arbeit erforscht die tiefen kulturellen Strömungen und intellektuellen Traditionen, die den Kontinent geformt haben.

Why has "America" - that is, the United States of America - become so much more than simply a place in the imagination of so many people around the world? In both Europe and Latin America, the United States has often been a site of multiple possible futures, a screen onto which could be projected utopian dreams and dystopian nightmares.
