Dokumentarsendungen („Features“) hatten ihren festen Platz im Programm. Die Studie wertet erstmals die zahlreichen Tondokumente und Akten aus, die vom DDR-Feature überliefert sind. Über vierzig Zeitzeugen, darunter Autoren, Dramaturgen und Regisseure, geben Auskunft über ihre Arbeit in den Kulturprogrammen und äußern sich zu ihrer „Radionische“. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen persönlicher Erinnerung und Aktenzitat wird der Arbeitsalltag von DDR-Journalisten rekonstruiert. Es entsteht ein präziser Einblick in die Bedingungen von Journalismus und Kunst im „real existierenden Sozialismus“. Patrick Conley ist promovierter Medienhistoriker. Von 1990 bis 1995 arbeitete er als freier Journalist und Moderator für den Hessischen Rundfunk. Seit 1995 lebt er als freier Autor in Berlin. Im Funkhaus Nalepastraße hat er als Regieassistent an Hörspielproduktionen mitgewirkt. 2002 erhielt er das DRA-Stipendium zur Erforschung der Rundfunk- und Mediengeschichte der DDR.
