This volume presents the Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Text, Speech and Dialogue, held in Brno, Czech Republic, in September 2004, under the auspices of Masaryk University. This series has become a significant forum for discussing the latest academic research and practical applications in these fields. The conferences uniquely gather researchers from diverse intellectual and geographical backgrounds, including those in speech technology, dialogue systems, text processing, and lexicography. In recent years, the event has evolved into a primary meeting place for speech and language technologists globally, fostering valuable exchanges between Western and Eastern Europe. TSD 2004 featured a comprehensive program of invited talks, tutorials, technical papers, poster sessions, workshops, and system demonstrations. Out of 127 submissions, 78 papers were accepted, contributed by 190 authors from 26 countries. We extend our gratitude to the Program Committee members and external reviewers for their thorough assessments, as well as to the authors for their high-quality contributions. Additionally, we appreciate the Organizing Committee for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the conference's success.
