Software organizations today face significant challenges, including the need to reduce costs, effort, and development time while managing increasing product complexity and customer demands for high-quality, customized solutions. Systematic software reuse approaches, particularly those focused on product lines, offer potential solutions to these issues. This dissertation introduces and validates a lightweight product line method that supports an evolutionary transition to software product lines. The method enhances the current landscape by optimizing initial investments and associated risks, allowing organizations to quickly generate results in projects, and facilitating the systematic sharing of experiences across different contexts. By implementing this approach, organizations can better navigate the complexities of modern software development while meeting customer expectations for tailored, high-quality products.
