Within the EU regional policy, the Interreg programme was developed to boost the cooperation of regions inside and beyond national borders. The economic potential of international cooperation is yet availed too little in East Germany. The town centre and the economic capabilities of the inner city are not forced enough within this EU- programme. For this reasons the German Institute of Town Center Development (DSSW) in co-operation wih the council of municipalities and regions in Europe (EGRE) has organized a Cooperation Forum to promote the town centre development as an important subject. The DSSW published this documentation in order to continue the initiated exchange of experiences on the Cooperation Forum. It contains the principles of the European policy regarding cities and the input of experts to the Interreg programme. Additionally one can find advice for the implementation of Interreg projects. The main part consists of ideas, current cooperation projects and successful finished projects, that were presented at the Cooperation Forum. The publication is also available in German.
