Der Sammelband vereint neun Beiträge. Auf die Einleitung [Hupe] folgen Untersuchungen zur Forschungsgeschichte [Rusjaeva], Achilleus auf der Insel Leuke [Ochtonikov], Archivmaterialien des 19. Jhs. zum Achilleus-Heiligtum auf Tendra [Tunkina], einer Achilleus-Kultstätte an der Bugmündung [Bujskich], zum Achilleus-Kult in Tyras [Hupe], der Statuenstiftung des Posideos aus Neapolis Skythike [Hupe] und zur Achilleus-Verehrung der römischen Kaiserzeit in Olbia [Hupe]. Den Abschluss bildet eine Synthese zu Akkulturationsprozessen im Spiegel des Achilleus-Kultes [Hupe]. Diese ergibt, daß angesichts der breiten Denkmälerüberlieferung über rund 800 Jahre [Mitte 6. Jhs. v. Chr. bis Mitte 3. Jhs. n. Chr.] die Entwicklung des Kultes anschaulich zu verfolgen ist. Anfangs war er griechisch dominiert und wurde erst in hellenistischer Zeit in nennenswertem Umfang von Einheimischen rezipiert. In der römischen Kaiserzeit nahm der Achilleus Pontarches-Kult in Olbia für die gesamte Bevölkerung, die griechischstämmige wie die sarmatischstämmige / Sarmaten, religiösen Leitcharakter an. Der Band schließt mit einem Literaturverzeichnis [Hupe], Abkürzungsverzeichnis, Abbildungsnachweis und Register [von Behren]. This volume contains nine contributions. The introduction [Hupe] is followed by articles on the history of research [Rusjaeva], Achilles on the island of Leuke [Ochtonikov], 19th century archive material of the Achilles sanctuary on Tendra [Tunkina], an Achilles cult-site at the mouth of the river Bug [Bujskich], on the Achilles cult in Tyras [Hupe], on Posideos‘ dedication of statues at Neapolis Skythike [Hupe], and on the worship of Achilles in the Roman period at Olbia [Hupe]. A synthesis on acculturation processes as reflected by the cult of Achilles [Hupe] stresses that the development of the cult can easily be observed, because of the broad survival of monuments over some 800 years [mid 6th century B. C. until mid 3rd century A. D.]. In the beginning, it was dominated by Greeks, and it was only in Hellenistic times, that it was adopted to a considerable degree by the local population. During the Roman Empire, the cult of Achilles Pontarches in Olbia became the religious model for the total population, both of Greek and of Sarmatian descent. The volume ends with a bibliography [Hupe], lists of abbreviations and illustrations, and an index of names of places and persons [von Behren].
