Science is undergoing a fascinating transformation process as the demands and challenges facing science grow. In times of global change and a dramatic loss of sustainability from local to global scales, science has to shoulder ever greater responsibilities. Given this context the question of how to move from knowledge to action becomes more and more crucial. This book looks at the design of the interface between theory and praxis. It analyses the problems, offers examples, makes action proposals and lists resources available to actors in science and development. The volume draws upon the authors’ experience as science consultants and project managers over the past fifteen years. Further studies were carried out in 2004 and 2005 with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. During that period a total of seventy experts were interviewed: scientists, politicians, public administrators, and representatives of NGOs, business and civil society.
