This volume presents the proceedings of the 10th International Symposium on Stabilization, Safety, and Security of Distributed Systems (SSS), held from November 21–23, 2008, in Detroit, Michigan. SSS originated as the Workshop on Self-Stabilizing Systems (WSS) in 1989, evolving into a biennial event after its second iteration in 1995. The forum has taken place in various locations, including Santa Barbara, Austin, Lisbon, San Francisco, and Barcelona. In 2003, the title changed to the Symposium on Self-Stabilizing Systems, and since 2005, it has been held annually. The focus expanded in 2006 to encompass all safety and security aspects of self-* systems, driven by the growing need for self-stabilization in distributed computing, including peer-to-peer and mobile ad-hoc networks. This led to the renaming of the symposium to its current title. This year, the symposium received 43 submissions from 13 countries, predominantly from the USA and France. Each submission underwent thorough review by three to six Program Committee members, aided by external reviewers. For the first time, a rebuttal phase allowed authors to respond to reviews prior to discussions. Ultimately, 17 outstanding papers were selected for presentation, resulting in a 40% acceptance rate, with the highest rates for topics related to sensor networks, MANETs, and security protocols.
